Introduction
Per the Republican Party of Virginia's Plan, the "Unit Committee" is a County or City Committee, which is the most local organization subdivision of the Republican Party. Article VI discusses the function, authority, and minimum requirements of a Unit Committee. The Clarke County Republican Committee is the Unit Committee encompassing Clarke County and the towns encompassed within it.
Our Unit's Membership
The Clarke County Republican Committee is constituted of Precinct Members. The number of Precinct Members is currently established on the basis of the average number of Republican candidates’ votes in the most recent Presidential and Gubernatorial elections. Using this average, each precinct (voting district) shall be entitled to one representative for each 100 votes cast, but in no case shall there be fewer than one member per district. An additional 30% capacity of at-large membership applies to the entirety of the membership roster.
Our Executive Commitee
The Executive Committee of the Clarke County Republican Committee consists of four officers (Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary), a Republican elected official, the immediate past Chairman, and one member as the Chairman selects. Other persons may attend Executive Committee meetings as the Chair permits, but they are not entitled to a vote on any Executive Committee business.
Our Subcommittees
There are also several subcommittees that serve to support the Unit Committee. The Candidate Search Committee seeks capable candidates for public office whose competencies and beliefs support the principles of the Republican Party. The Finance Committee assists with raising, managing, and expending funds to support the Unit Committee and the various subcommittees' activities, and ensure legal compliance and fiscal responsibility throughout the Unit. The Programs Committee develops activities, educational programs, events, and other opportunities that foster recognition of and engagement with the principles of the Republican Party. The Recruitment Committee serves to maintain and grow membership rosters, and encourage community engagement with the Unit Committee. The Precinct Captains Committee serves to organize the local precinct captains into unified, coordinated activities even more locally by neighborhoods and across the County. Other subcommittees may be formed for limited purposes until their need ceases to exist.
